How to open your mind to transformation

There may be comfort in the ‘known,.’ but it is stagnant. When we stay in the same mindset throughout our life, we miss out on experiences that can help us grow. People with a growth mindset are open to new perspectives, opportunities, and adventures.

So how do we open our minds to transformation? We attempt to simplify the process through this article with inputs from a successful life coach and keynote speaker, Pooja Bagri.

‘You cannot create lasting success unless you BELIEVE you can.’

Why should you change your mind?

Life is made by a series of choices, but what if we choose the same over and over again? We would end up in the same situations, similar relationships, and same life experiences. How many times have you said NO to new opportunities because you felt scared, thought that you did not have enough talent or experience?

The next time you find yourself in a new situation, try asking yourself WHY you should do this rather than why you shouldn’t. Make a list of all the good that you can bring to the situation (whether a new job, relationship, or adventure) and how you would benefit from it.

Getting out of your comfort zone.

Changing your mind can sometimes be a challenging process. As you try to change your past belief systems, your brain will put up a fight. It will bombard you with self-doubt and fear. Try to pull you back to your comfort zone. Remember, you are in control of your thoughts. Go back to your list of possible positive outcomes and remind yourself that good things happen when we accept them.

If you find yourself surrounded by people who hold unrealistic expectations from you, force you to conform to older belief systems, or shame you for breaking generational boundaries, it may be time to change your mind about them.

Say YES.

Say yes to new opportunities and adventures whenever you can. The moment you say yes, your mind looks towards the future. It will create scenarios both negative and positive for you to dwell on. Focus on your positive thoughts.

Saying yes to new opportunities is saying yes to yourself. You are telling yourself that you are enough and you are capable. Next time you are asked to join in on a new project at work, say yes. Take up new responsibilities at the workplace. Say yes to that fitness challenge, or go on that long dream vacation!

You can never get more by saying “No.” You can hold a current position by saying “No,” but you can only move forward by saying “Yes.” ~ Marshall Sylver
